Innovation in harnessing renewable energy continues to advance and using rainwater to generate electricity promises to be an important part of the energy solution of the future.
The combination of energy generation and water collection makes photovoltaic panels an efficient and multifunctional solution. The objective of evaluating and demonstrating the feasibility of an integrated photovoltaic system that combines solar energy generation with rainwater harvesting has been successfully addressed.
A team of researchers from Tsinghua University in Shenzhen, China, has developed a system that allows solar panels to generate electricity even when it's raining. This innovation is based on the integration of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which capture the energy from raindrops striking the panel's surface.
Although the D-TENG system is one of the most advanced, it is not the only method for obtaining energy from rainwater. There are other alternatives such as the use of piezoelectricity, which is based on the property of certain materials to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
It''s an enormous leap in rainwater efficiency, especially for small-scale, urban applications. Pressure, Power and Piezoelectric Disks While plug flow technology harnesses the
