In Japan's latest long term decarbonisation power source auction (LTDA), battery energy storage systems (BESS) have emerged as a clear winner in this category.
Delivered to Matsuyama Mikan Energy LLC—a joint venture between Shikoku Electric Power Company, Incorporated, and CHC Japan K.K.—the project is Hitachi's first domestic delivery of a grid energy storage system. The Matsuyama BESS features an output of 12 MW and a rated capacity of 35.8 MWh. Official operations began on August 1, 2025.
